White House announces set of actions to accelerate EV adoption

News

The White House has announced a set of federal and private sector actions to increase access to clean transport technologies and boost the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Unites States (US).

The Obama Administration made the announcement on the heels of the United States Department of Energy’s (DOE) first-ever Sustainable Transportation Summit, and will work across government to ensure EV drivers have access to charging stations at home, at work, and on the road.

The actions include: unlocking up to $4.5 billion in loan guarantees and inviting applications to support the commercial-scale deployment of innovative electric vehicle charging facilities; launching the FAST Act process to identify zero emission and alternative fuel corridors, including for electric vehicle charging across the country; announcing a call for state, county, and municipal governments to partner with the federal government to procure electric vehicle fleets at a discounted value; and publishing a guide to federal funding, financing, and technical assistance for electric vehicles and charging stations.

The White House will work in collaborations with the DOE, the Department of Transportation, the Airforce, the Army and the Environmental Protection Agency to achieve its goals of getting more EVs on US roads. In addition to government collaboration, over 50 industry members have also signed a commitment to work with the government to increase the deployment of EV charging infrastructure.
