Chinese car manufacturer JAC Motors has announced a partnership with Samsung SDI, which will supply batteries for its new electric vehicles (EVs).

JAC Motor’s iEV6S was unveiled on 20 November at the 2015 Guangzhou International Auto Parts & Accessories Exhibition. It is confirmed to have a range of over 155 miles, which will be powered by approximately 3,000 of Samsung SDI’s high performance 18650 battery cells.

The two companies will operate as tactical partners, exchanging technology and establishing a solid supplier relationship. The deal will see Samsung SDI supply 50 million battery cells in 2016.

Nam-Seong Cho, Samsung SDI’s CEO, said: “China’s electric vehicle market is rapidly growing and since it is crucial to maintain our position as a leading manufacturer, we are supplying cylindrical 18650 batteries along with the existing squared ones.
