The London Hydrogen Network Expansion (LHNE) has broken the record for the longest continuous journey in a hydrogen car.

The programme involved driving a Hyundai ix35 fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) for 6,000 miles around the M25 over six days. The LHNE also broke the world record for the longest distance travelled on a single tank of hydrogen, achieving 400 miles.

The demonstration was run as part of Hydrogen Week and saw a team of drivers, including Green Fleet’s very own Richard Gooding, completing 50 laps of the M25 motor way and driving to four of the UK’s hydrogen refuelling stations to refuel.

Diana Raine, European Business Manager for Hydrogen Energy Systems at Air Products, the firm which has led the LHNE project, said: “What we need now for accelerated adoption of hydrogen vehicles is for the government to work with our industry to provide the right framework for the technology to become truly accepted by the public.”
