Panasonic partners with Chinese firm to build EV batteries

Panasonic has announced a new joint venture with Chinese firm Dalian Levear Electric Company, with the aim of developing lithium-ion batteries to be used in electric vehicles (EVs), according to a report from EV Obsession.

The batteries will be developed and built in China, with production expected to begin in 2017. The joint venture will draw on Panasonic’s technical knowledge and Dalian Levear Electric Company’s local knowledge, with both companies currently working to secure support from Chinese local authorities.

Panasonic are also currently heavily investing in Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada which, paired with this joint venture, suggests the company is putting a lot of faith in EV batteries for the automotive sector.
