More models achieve A grade in EQUA Air Quality Index

A further list of models have achieved an A grade rating for low NOx emissions, including Ford’s 1.0 litre Ecoboost, Bentley’s 6.0 litre W12 and Rolls-Royce’s 6.6 litre V12.

The A grade rating recognises the engines are capable of staying within Euro 6 pollution targets, emitting no more than 0.08g/km of NOx.

Initially, an earlier version of the Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost was rated as E on the EQUA Index, however the the new and significantly improved rating proves vehicle manufacturers are making noticeable improvements to engine performance as air quality issues come under scrutiny.

Nick Molden, CEO and founder of Emissions Analytics, said: “It’s encouraging to see that vehicle manufacturers are cleaning up engine emissions as part of a continuous development programme. Both large and small displacement engines are capable of hitting the latest targets if correctly optimised.”

The EQUA Air Quality Index is being used to help monitor vehicle performance on roads and is intended to complement the forthcoming Real Driving Emissions regulations and determine its effectiveness.
