New Hyundai fuel cell vehicle expected for 2017

News

Hyundai’s second generation fuel cell powered SUV is set to become available to public in 2017, and will replace the currently manufactured Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell.

The ix35’s successor is as of yet unnamed but is expected to have a four-year production run of at least 10-15,000 units. The company predicts that by 2017 there will be 1000 Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell cars on the roads, with large numbers owned by hydrogen infrastructure companies.

However, the second-generation vehicles will be targeted more at the public with a much smaller percentage of sales expected to be accounted by non-private buyers.

The new model is also expected to be an SUV similar in size to the ix35 but more lightweight.

Hyundai has also claimed the success of the 2017 model in the UK will depend on customer demand, which will be produced by planned events aimed at increasing public awareness of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
