Nissan EV taxis clock over three million miles

News

Nissan’s electric vehicle (EV) taxis, including its LEAF hatchback and e-NV200, have clocked up over three million miles the UK.

Currently, there are over 140 Nissan EV taxis operating across Britain, with more set to arrive and many taxi companies and local authorities planning to replace diesel and petrol equivalents with cleaner and cheaper EV alternatives.

Further analysis shows that had the same distance been covered by the former diesel vehicles, it would have racked up an estimated cost of £350,000 in fuel, creating 899 tonnes of carbon. However, given the low running costs of the LEAF and e-NV200, the cost was significantly less at £60,000, emitting no tailpipe emissions.

Karl Anders, national EV manager at Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, said: “There can now be absolutely no doubt that the Nissan LEAF and e-NV200 make brilliant taxis. Operators across the UK have put them to the ultimate test – running them 24-7 and rapid charging them time and time again to keep them on the road and making money. And no matter what challenges the vehicles have faced they have come up trumps.

“As a result, we’ve seen more and more taxi operators, seriously looking into electric vehicles as their existing diesel and petrol vehicles come up for replacement. This is a trend we expect to continue and accelerate as the charging infrastructure across the country continues to expand.”
