BYD plans to build electric bus factory in Europe

Electric vehicle maker BYD is planning to add an electric bus plant in Europe, which follows a previous announcement to construct one in France.

If the plans go through, this will see BYD have two electric bus factories in Europe, with one in France, and another in a different location.

BYD is already set to invest 10 million euros into its plant in France.

This is to keep up with the demand of an increasing number of countries replacing buses running on fossil fuels.

In an interview in Shanghai, Isbrand Ho, managing director of BYD’s European auto sales division said that the firm aims to gain about a third of the European bus and coach market in five years.

He said: “BYD is capable of winning more market share in Europe amid an industry reshuffle caused by the electrification of public transportation.

“We are expecting booming demand for electric buses in Europe.”

Its K9 electric buses and e6 electric cars have been in operation in more than 200 cities globally and are exported to countries including the U.S., Japan and Australia, according to the company’s annual report.
