Route Monkey to support EV car sharing in EU smart cities project

News

Mobility solutions provider Route Monkey is working to optimise an electric car sharing scheme in Bristol as part of a major EU smart cities project spanning three countries.

The cities of Bristol, San Sebastián in the Basque region of Spain and Florence in Italy have been awarded €25 million to tackle urban challenges such as traffic congestion, poor air quality and energy consumption as part of the EU’s Horizon 2020 innovation programme.

Route Monkey is a part of the Bristol consortium known as REPLICATE (REnaissance of PLaces with Innovative Citizenship And Technologies) and will work with Co-Wheels Car Club to run a car sharing service primarily focussed on East Bristol, as well as optimise integrated networks for commuters and business users.

Route Monkey’s mobility and e-mobility algorithms will support the project, with the aim of demonstrating how technology can create efficient, integrated and interactive urban environments that empower citizens.

The project aims to take the successes from these three cities and disseminate them as best practice to ‘follower cities’ across the world.

Colin Ferguson, CEO of Route Monkey, said: “REPLICATE is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithms in smart city applications. Urban mobility is facing many challenges and we believe our technology can play a key part in delivering the solutions.”
