Motorists prefer hiring diesel cars, analysis shows

Data released by Europcar UK has shown that customers see diesel as the preferred choice of vehicle to rent.

Taking information from its ‘Model Guaranteed’ service, which allows customers to choose which type of vehicle they want to drive, the vehicle rental company found that nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of motorists prefer diesel when hiring a car.

It was also found that 78 per cent said they would not want to hire an electric model.

Gary Smith, managing director, Europcar UK Group, commented: “We are working hard to overcome motorists’ ‘range anxiety’ about electric vehicles.

“It is also interesting to see the continued appetite for diesel despite recent government and media focus on this fuel.”
