Toyota recall 2,800 fuel cell vehicles following software flaw

News

Toyota’s first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle has been recalled following a glitch in the software.

The firm has issued the global recall on all Toyota Mirais built between November 2014 and December 2016, after it found issues with the output voltage generated in the fuel cell system.

In unique circumstances, when a driver accelerates hard once a car has been travelling downhill for more than a minute in cruise control, there is a risk that the output voltage of the fuel-cell boost converter can exceed maximum levels and force the system to shut down.

The company will resolve this issue with a software update, which is expected to take around half an hour and will be free of charge.
