New Ford 140-mile range electric car launched in the UK

Ford has adapted the Focus Electric so it now has a longer range and a quicker charging capability, allowing for 80 per cent charge in about half an hour using rapid DC 50kW chargers.

The upgraded model has a new battery pack which is 33,5kWh, making it nearly 50 per cent larger than the before, and can now reach 140 miles, in comparison to the previous 100.

The Focus has a top speed of 84mph and there is also upgraded equipment levels which are available to buyers.

Ford also plan to release a new pure-electric SUV by 2020, expected to offer a range of at lease 300 miles.

Joe Bakaj, vice president of product development for Ford of Europe, commented: “Drivers can recharge our new Ford Focus Electric in the time it takes to stop and enjoy a cup of coffee and a piece of cake.

“With the new fast-charging capability and improved battery, the new Focus Electric is a zero-emission family car with driving range and usability that makes sense to the real world.”
