VW set to present connected EV Microbus

Volkswagen is set to unveil its new concept electric vehicle (EV) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The vehicle is expected to be a new version of the Microbus and is part of VW Group’s new focus on EVs and electric mobility.

The first teaser for the vehicle suggests a more futuristic design with an illuminated grille and squinting headlights. It has also been speculated that the full shape includes some vintage cues from the van, including short overhangs, a wide D-pillar, and boxy overall aesthetic.

The CES is taking place in Las Vegas from 6-9 January 2016 and is the world’s largest consumer technology show. The show is also where many consumers choose to first air their systems and gadgets.

VW’s presence is certainly an unusual one but is demonstrative of the group’s dedication in putting forward its electrification strategy.

The focus of the presentation will centralise on networking and long-distance electromobility, while innovations such as the Golf R Touch concept car are also likely to appear in VW’s product portfolio.

Dr Herbert Diess, chairman of Volkswagen, will be the keynote speaker the evening before the show opens to the public. Diess’ speech is expected to outline ‘the latest developments in electromobility, as well as the next generation of connectivity.’
