Ocado trials electric vehicle grocery deliveries

News

The online supermarket company Ocado has been testing out the use of electric vehicles for home deliveries in a bit to reduce air pollution.

This is part of the company's aim to cut its carbon footprint, reduce congestion and keep noise levels to a minimum.

The TRIPL vehicle is Danish-designed and is quieter than a standard van or car and will reduce emissions, according to Ocado.

According to The Independent, Ocado says that the vehicles are small and manoeuvrable which means they can access confined areas easier than a larger delivery vehicle.

The TRIPL vehicle has a top speed of around 27 miles per hour and a range of about 62 miles on a single charge. They will be used to deliver customer orders in urban areas and used mostly for short deliveries.

The retailer aims to roll out the vehicles across the UK after an initial launch in London at the end of the year, depending on its success.
