Germany’s plans for an electric vehicle charging network has been approved by the European Commission.

The plans will cost about 300 million Euros - which is the equivalent of £255 million - over the course of four years.

Electricity will come from renewable energy sources and contracts will be awarded through an open tender process.

EU Commissioner, Margrethe Vestager, commented: "Electric vehicles can provide real benefits to society by reducing harmful emissions and noise pollution.

The German support scheme will encourage consumers and businesses to use electric vehicles.”
