Daimler to unveil longer range Mercedes EV in October

Daimler is set to reveal its much awaited long-distance electric vehicle (EV) a the Paris Motor Show in October, claiming the car will compete with Tesla Motors Inc’s Model X sport-utility vehicle (SUV).

The company will display a prototype of a Mercedes EV with a 310 mile range.

Thomas Weber, chief development officer for Daimler, commented: “The structure is ready, the teams are working and the initial results from road tests are coming in quick succession.”

While Weber did not specify exactly when the EV was expected to hit roads, he assured it would be sometime before 2021.

Weber also said that Daimler would launch its fourth generation electric smart car and at the end of the year in both two and four-seater variants. The company has set a target to sell over 100,00 EVs per year by the end of the decade.
