Tesla unveils updated Model S

News

Tesla has refreshed the look of its Model S, following the success which followed the launch of the model.

The revised look features a new front end, which competes with the group’s smallest offering and almost entirely discards any evidence of a front grille. While there has been no change to the model’s powertrain specifications, these aspects are expected to be updated regularly.

Another update includes the option for buyers to specify their new Model S with the same medical-grade air filtration system that was debuted on the Model X. Buyers can also purchase the vehicle with fully adaptable LED headlights with the standard charger upgraded from 40 to 48 amps for faster charging on Tesla’s Supercharger network.

The refreshed model is available to order in the US via Tesla’s online configurator, though a delivery date has not yet been confirmed.

It has also been reported that Tesla has recalled 2600 Model X vehicles in America, following an issue with the locking hinge in third row seats. Replacements for the affected vehicle are due to be replaced within five weeks.

The problem was discovered during a recent internal seat strength test undertaken ahead of Model X deliveries in Europe. During the test, ‘the recliner in a third row Model X seat unexpectedly slipped’.

Explaining the revelation, Tesla said: “The recliner, which is provided to us by an outside supplier, is the locking hinge that allows the third row seat back to fold forward, and if a recliner were to slip during a crash, the seat back could move forward."
