Renault could face a criminal investigation in France over suspicions that a number of its vehicles have broken emissions regulations.
The country’s consumer fraud agency has passed a file to prosecutors containing findings from an inquiry into possible emissions test manipulation. The file reportedly outlines that a number of Renault vehicles were found to have abnormally high NOx emissions.
A government statement has said that ’it is now up to the courts to determine what further action to take over the suspected breaches’. In response, Renault has released a statement saying that it ‘complies with French and European regulations’.
