BMW has confirmed that the iNext is set to arrive in 2021 after an all-electric mini and BMW X3 is released by 2020.

In addition to this, BMW’s electric i8 Roadster is due next year.

BMW has labelled the iNext as its “innovation spearhead”

Company chairman Harald Krüger, said: "We are now electrifying all our brands and model series.

“We are creating flexible vehicle architectures for both conventional and electrified drive trains. This enables us to meet the varying needs and demand in the markets.

“Already today, nine locations worldwide produce nine electrified models, eight of which are plug-in hybrids."

BMW’s i3 is available as both pure-EV and REX range extended model.

The i8 is BMW's i-Division product, a concept that has helped bring about the iPerformance brand - which involves PHEV versions of conventional models.

BMW will add further PHEV models to the line up as new products are launched.

With increased focus on pure-EV models, BMW is also expanding its options to its Mini brand.

It has also been confirmed that the car maker is working on fuel cell technology with Toyota.
