Choice of three EV powertrains for the new Hyundai IONIQ

Hyundai Motor has unveiled its new compact IONIQ, which will be the first vehicle to go on sale with three different EV powertrains available in a single body.

The IONIQ will give customers the choice of either all electric, plug-in petrol electric hybrid or non plug-in petrol electric hybrid power trains, aiming to meet the rapidly changing demands of customer lifestyles. The vehicle is based on a new platform, which has been made specifically to accommodate the cars multi-powertrain options while optimising handling and efficiency.

Hyundai has said that the IONIQ is a part of the company’s ‘ambition to chart the direction of future mobility’, and will make its world premiere in Korea in January, followed by an appearance at the Geneva International Motor Show and the New York Auto Show, both in March 2016.
