Consultation launched on zero emission vehicle mandate

News

The Government has launched a consultation to seek further views on the design of the zero emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate for cars and vans, which will require manufacturers to sell a certain proportion of electric vehicles in the lead up to 2030, with a fine if they don't meet their targets.

The consultation is seeking views on some of the design features that could be included in a car and van regulation.

This includes the level of ZEV uptake (trajectories); how certificates could be allocated and used; and the banking, borrowing and transfer of ZEV certificates.

It is also seeking views on the possibility of derogations and exemptions within the ZEV mandate, and how to regulate the non-ZEV portion of the fleet.

The consultation closes on 10 June.
