Hyundai picks up green technology award

Hyundai has been recognised for its green technologies, picking up the Technology Award at the annual Auto Express New Car Awards.

The Award takes into account Hyundai’s work to offer its customers a complete range of eco-technologies, including Blue Drive models across its line-up, the first commercially available hydrogen powered vehicle in the ix35 Fuel Cell, as well as the new IONIQ, the world’s first car to offer three electrified powertrains.

Steve Fowler, editor-in-chief, Auto Express and Carbuyer, said: “The award has been given to the manufacturer that we feel has introduced really innovative and useful technology that will truly benefit the consumer. Hyundai is the first car maker who'll be offering buyers a full mix of eco-friendly technologies. In the IONIQ you'll be able to choose from affordable hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions - all in a really appealing package. And, of course, Hyundai was the first manufacturer to offer UK buyers a fuel cell vehicle in the ix35”

Tony Whitehorn, president & CEO, Hyundai Motor UK said: “To receive this award is a great honour and testament to our ongoing commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our vehicles. With our latest model, IONIQ, we are now able to offer our customers even greater choice with a vehicle designed and engineered from the start to offer hybrid, electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.”
