Chevin joins ‘Go Ultra Low’ campaign

Chevin Fleet Solutions has become one of the first UK fleets to join the government backed Go Ultra Low campaign, meaning at least five per cent of its fleet must consist of electric vehicles (EVs) by 2020.

The move comes as part of its commitment to improving its environmental impact, with the firm also enforcing a strict emissions policy on the rest of its non-EV fleet. This will ensure that company cars achieve CO2 emission under 119g/km and have a combined fuel consumption of more than 57mpg.

Managing director Ashley Sowerby admitted that the move was more of a symbolic gesture given the relatively small size of Chevin’s fleet, but said that they wanted to promote the conversation on ways to reduce fleet emissions and show customers that it is possible to integrate ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) into regular operations.

To support the implementation of EVs, charging points have been installed at the company’s UK head quarters, which will be partially powered by its 20kW electric roof.

Sowerby said: “We have just taken delivery of our first electric vehicle – my own Tesla – and we will be making EVs available to other Chevin employees as their cars come up for replacement.

“We are gathering, everyday, real world experience of what it is like to operate EVs. These are lessons we can use to help our own fleet software customers as they also look towards adopting ULEVs.”
