New data from the Department for Transport shows that, as of 1 January 2024, the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) has enabled 51,449 sockets to be installed in workplaces since the scheme started in 2016. This equates to a total value of £19 million.

In the past year, the WCS funded 10,566 sockets installations (from January 2023 to January 2024).

The WCS is open to businesses, charities and public sector organisations and covers up to 75% of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints, capped at a maximum of £350 per socket and 40 sockets across all sites.

The On-Street Residential Charging Scheme meanwhile has seen 5,274 public charging devices installed across local authorities in the UK since the scheme’s launch in 2017 (as of 1 January 2024).

Funding has also been awarded for 14,037 additional ORCS charging devices, including both devices installed, but where projects are yet to complete, and those to be installed in the future.
