The UK has seen the largest increase in alternative fuel vehicle registrations (AFV) in Europe for the second quarter of 2015, becoming Europe’s second largest hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) market.

New research from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) found a 64.4 per cent increase in the registrations of AFVs over the second quarter of 2015, which includes EVs, hybrids and propane and natural gas powered vehicles.

14,838 of the 72,741 plug-ins registered in the EU were from the UK, which amounts to 20.4 per cent of the market. The UK is behind Norway’s 16,990 AFV registrations, but considerably ahead of France with 10,427 registrations.

ACEA’s research also shows an increase in Europe as whole, with AFV registrations up 17.4 per cent.
