West Yorkshire taxis to benefit from 88 new charge points

News

A fund of £1.9 million will be spent on installing 88 new charge points for taxi firms and private hire cars to use in West Yorkshire.

This comes after the West Yorkshire Combined Authority successfully applied for the £1.9 million of Office for Low Emission Vehicles’ (OLEVs) taxi scheme.

The points will be installed in strategic spots in Leeds, York, Bradford and Wakefield, with the intention to help plug-in taxi drivers on the move.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority transport chair, councillor Keith Wakefield said: “This funding will enable the Combined Authority to roll out dedicated charging point infrastructure across West Yorkshire, which is forecast to result in 500 diesel taxis and private hire vehicles being converted to hybrid and pure electric versions by 2020.”
