Nissan tests autonomous vehicles on public roads in London

News

Nissan has begun testing its latest autonomous vehicles on public roads for the first time in Europe.

Those taking part in the trial in East London had the opportunity to experience technology such as laser scanners, high-speed computer chips, and HMI (Human Machine Interface).

This helps the vehicle to operate in an autonomous manner once destination points are put into the navigation system.

The tests follow announcements that Nissan models Qashqai and Leaf will have ProPILOT autonomous drive technology in the future.

This technology would allow for single lane autonomous driving on motorways.

Takao Asami, senior vice president for Research and Advanced Engineering at Nissan, said: “Innovation and ingenuity is at the heart of the Nissan brand and its people.

“The test of Nissan’s forthcoming autonomous drive technology in the demanding conditions of London streets underlines our commitment to delivering Nissan Intelligent Mobility to our customers.”

Nissan has already done public-road testing in Japan and the US.
