Scottish councils criticised for under-utilising EVs

A freedom of information request has revealed that Scottish councils have spent almost £1 million on electric cars that they barely use.

According to The Scotsman, Scotland’s local councils have paid out £962,442 on 147 electric vehicles in the past six years.

Since 2011 the vehicles have done 5,843 miles, even though most are able to do around 8,000 miles each year.

Overall, the total mileage for the cars came in at 859,020, which has suggested that councils have not “utilised them to optimal level”.
