London's van scrappage scheme cancelled

News

The Mayor of London’s Van Scrappage Scheme has been cancelled due to "unprecedented demand and limited funds", TfL has announced.

The scrappage scheme was launched in February 2019 to enable small-businesses and charities to replace polluting vehicles for those that meet the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) standards.

The £30 million scheme was cancelled with only a few days notice given.

Any applications submitted prior to 5 pm on August 28 will be processed as normal, but any further applications will no longer be accepted.

TfL's website does say that support scheme for heavier vehicles will be launched. It says: "To help clean up the heavy vehicle fleet, we will launch a scheme to support eligible small businesses and charities who operate heavy vehicles later this year. This includes HGVs, heavy vans and specialist vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW) and coaches and buses over 5 tonnes GVW. Further details on this scheme will be available soon."
