Setting the GreenFleet standard

Feature

A record number of entries and examples of innovation received for the 2010 GreenFleet Awards will once again raise the bar for environmental fleet management

Many manufacturers and fleet managers have whole-heartedly taken on the challenge to combat climate change with pioneering ways to reduce the carbon output of their fleet. Recognising the success of such organisations, the 2010 GreenFleet® Awards, sponsored by Renault and now in its 12th year, will take place at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on October 7th. This year, 18 awards will be given out to deserving public and private sector fleet organisations for their efforts in environmental fleet management and low carbon motoring.

The awards will be presented by comedian and TV presenter Rufus Hound, who took part in Let’s Dance for Sport Relief, dancing to Cheryl Cole’s “Fight For This Love”, and won the final of the series in March 2010. In addition to being the Blue Team Captain on the Dave TV series ‘Argumental’, he presents Outtake TV on BBC1, replacing Anne Robinson.

This year, a record number of entries were received. In particular, the standard of entries for the the Industry Innovation Award, which last year went to BMW for their EfficientDynamics technology, was extremely high, and demonstrates that real progress is being made on the journey towards low carbon motoring.

This year, BMW are in the mix again, largely due to the huge impact EfficientDynamics has had on lowering emissions. Also featuring on the Industry Innovation shortlist is Zeta Automotive for its dynamic throttle control system. The device pro-actively limits the ability of a driver to accelerate harshly, speed, or over-rev the engine. Mercedes-Benz were so impressed with the solution, they are championing it to their fleet customers.

Garmin’s ecoRoute HD, Fiat’s eco:Drive Fleet and Intelligent Energy’s Fuel Cell Black Cab project are also being considered as potential winners.

The Awards this year return to the Emirates Stadium, which hosted the 2007 Awards. The Stadium has become a landmark piece of modern architecture dominating the north London skyline. Aside from being of the most technologically advanced arenas in world football, the venue boasts an array of bright, modern and versatile suites, all with impressive views of the pitch. Located minutes from central London and St Pancras International, Emirates Stadium has excellent transport links making it easily accessible from the City, the West End and Europe.

The Awards are being judged by representatives from the Institute of Car Fleet Management, WhatGreenCar? and GreenFleet magazine, and are a key date in the transport industry calendar.

GreenFleet is pleased to announce Renault Business as the Headline Sponsors of the 2010 GreenFleet Awards.
