EV Chargesafe LTD

Company Focus

Co-Founders Kate & James were looking for a way to make ChargePoint network operators sit up and pay attention to the needs of their users beyond location and charge speeds. Personal safety, accessibility and network reliability are previously overlooked issues in favour of profitability. by creating a Trustpilot style 5-star rating, now Networks will have to level up in delivering a 360 experience to their customers, as the ChargeSafe score gives visibility to these issues and provides EV drivers with more informed choices when deciding where to charge.

ChargeSafe is a solution for EV Drivers using public chargers by delivering a 5-star rating system to create a safe and accessible charge experience for everyone. The independent score means uncompromised data collection to offer EV drivers more informed options when selecting a charger away from home. Consisting of quantitative and qualitative data, the 90+ inspection points look at site placement, environment, lighting, security, facilities and chargepoint maintenance, with accessibility measures influenced by the PAS 1899:2022 standard published this year. Serviced by the EV driving community, who will maintain local chargepoint scores via a snapshot assessment, ChargeSafe aims to provide robust data to support chargepoint network operators to identify sites at risk and to celebrate high-scoring locations.

The data collected also serves local authorities and fleet operators nationwide to deliver and navigate safe, accessible and efficient infrastructure to benefit EV drivers for decades to come. Fleets will, in addition, have access to the suitability of the location for height restriction, turning circle and length of stay information to ensure the business impact is minimal.

Since the business was founded during COP26 last year, Kate & James have secured the confidence of Osprey, FastNed and 3ti as networks keen to benefit from the data. Electric Universe has signed up as the first mapping application to display the ChargeSafe rating of inspected locations, with Motability Operations committing to fund projects across the Country for their own users. President of the AA, Edmund King was amongst the first to celebrate the business, and a thoroughly positive reception has been gained amongst industry colleagues and peers.

Positive press from across the globe continues to highlight the importance of an independent body rating charge sites on safety and accessibility, with new opportunities emerging as ChargeSafe looks to launch a subsidiary in Australia & NZ and USA & Canada markets in 2023.

The technology used has been written by CTO and Co-Founder James Coyle, who has applied gamification features to the public web portal to incentivise and engage the community and will look to include AI that will identify and provide a preliminary score for any potential sites CPO's may look to acquire in future.

The Team have also provided consultancy to other innovations in the field, such as the 3ti Papilio unit for accessibility in design, meaning an entire network due to be delivered will already be in a great position to service those with accessibility requirements.

Kate, having gained a credible reputation in the EV Industry over the last couple of years, continues to challenge convention and stir curiosity when discussing opportunities to improve the UK's charging infrastructure. Delivering talks at CENEX, the EV World Congress and being a panellist at Fully Charged LIVE, her reputation has encouraged chargepoint network operators and local authorities to reach out for advice on how to improve their own sites.

Most importantly, ChargeSafe has been created for EV Drivers by EV Drivers. The data will ensure everyone has a transparent view of a charge site ahead of arriving; fleets can use this to improve efficiency, minimise downtime and protect their electric fleet. The millions of drivers with a disability will have an easier transition to electric with the measures in place, and the EV community will feel safe charging alone at night, thanks to the rating.
